Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 16, 2026
Welcome to AppPause ("we," "us," or "our"). AppPause is a parental screen time management app that helps parents set healthy screen time limits, schedule device pauses, and manage children's app usage on iPhone (with optional Apple Watch and widgets). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard information when you use our mobile application and website (collectively, the "Service").
By accessing or using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1. Information We Collect
We collect information you provide, information generated by the app on device, and limited technical data needed to run analytics and reliability tooling.
Parent device identity (no AppPause account required)
AppPause does not require creating a separate email/password account with us. Device role and install identity are stored on device (Keychain / local storage). Family features may use your Apple ID / iCloud (CloudKit) when you enable sync or share a child policy with another device.
We do not collect:
- Email address for an AppPause account
- Password or authentication credentials for AppPause
- Payment card numbers (purchases go through Apple)
Screen Time and control data (on device / Apple frameworks)
To provide core features, AppPause uses Apple Screen Time / Family Controls APIs and stores configuration such as:
- Session durations and focus/pause history
- App and category selections (as opaque Apple tokens where required)
- Schedules, limits, locks, blocklists, and pause configurations
- Child profile nicknames you create for display in the app
Much of this data stays on the device or in your iCloud account when CloudKit sync/sharing is enabled. We do not upload Screen Time app-selection tokens or child nicknames to Amplitude.
Child profile data
When you create child profiles, we store names or nicknames you assign for display. These are used within the family experience and are not sent to our product analytics provider. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13 for analytics accounts.
Device and usage information (product analytics)
On parent-role devices only, when analytics is enabled (default on; can be turned off in Settings), we may collect:
- Coarse device/app context (for example platform, OS version, app version, language)
- Product interaction events (for example onboarding steps completed, permission outcomes, session start/end with duration and mode, Pause Now use, paywall and purchase results)
- An anonymous install identifier used to group events from the same parent install
We intentionally do not send the following to product analytics:
- Child names or nicknames
- Email addresses
- Precise location, IP address, city, DMA, or advertising IDs (IDFA)
- IDFV (Identifier for Vendor)
- Selected app names or Screen Time tokens
- Free-text notes that could identify a child
Crash and reliability (Sentry)
In release builds, we may use Sentry for crash reporting. Crash reports are configured to avoid default PII, screenshots, and view hierarchy capture. See Sentry's privacy documentation for processor details.
Website
If you use our marketing website, standard server logs and optional analytics cookies may apply as described in the website section below.
2. How We Use Your Information
- Core service delivery: Screen time schedules, focused sessions, Pause Now, shields, and related controls
- Family features: Multiple profiles, CloudKit sync between parent devices, and shared child policy when you opt in
- Subscriptions: Unlock Pro features via Apple In-App Purchase (StoreKit)
- Notifications: Session end and related reminders when you allow notifications
- Analytics and improvement: Understanding feature usage on parent devices to improve reliability and UX
- Support: Responding when you contact support@gocodingnow.com
- Legal compliance: Meeting applicable legal obligations
3. Shortcuts & Automation
AppPause can integrate with Apple Shortcuts. Shortcut actions run using Apple frameworks and your device configuration. We do not collect extra personal data through Shortcuts beyond what is described here. Shortcut configurations live in the Shortcuts app.
4. Data Storage and Security
- On-device storage uses platform protections (app sandbox, Keychain where appropriate, App Group for extensions)
- CloudKit data uses Apple's infrastructure and your Apple ID access controls when sync/sharing is enabled
- Network traffic uses TLS where applicable
- No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure; we work to use commercially reasonable safeguards
5. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services. Each processes data under its own terms and privacy policy:
- Apple (Screen Time / Family Controls, CloudKit, Push, StoreKit, App Store): Core enforcement, optional sync/sharing, purchases, notifications
- Amplitude: Product analytics on parent-role devices when analytics is enabled
- Sentry: Crash and error reporting in release builds
We do not use Supabase or Adapty in the current AppPause iOS app.
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information. We share data only with the processors above as needed to operate the Service, or when required by law, or to protect rights and safety.
6. Analytics Controls
- Analytics runs only on parent-role installs (parent primary / parent secondary)
- Child-role devices do not send product analytics events
- Parents can disable analytics in Settings → Preferences → Share Analytics
- When disabled, the Amplitude SDK is opted out and stops sending events from that install
7. Data Retention
- Local app data remains until you delete it in-app or remove the app
- CloudKit records follow your Apple ID / iCloud retention and any in-app delete-sync actions
- Analytics events are retained by Amplitude according to our Amplitude project settings and are used in aggregate to improve the product
- Crash reports are retained per Sentry project settings
8. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, port, restrict, or object to certain processing, and to withdraw consent where processing is consent-based.
You can:
- Turn off product analytics in Settings
- Delete local data by removing the app
- Delete CloudKit-synced AppPause data via the in-app sync delete control (where available)
- Contact us at support@gocodingnow.com for other requests
EEA users may also lodge a complaint with a local supervisory authority.
9. Children's Privacy
AppPause is designed for parents and guardians. Children may experience shields and limits on a child-configured device, but:
- Product analytics is disabled on child-role devices
- We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13 for marketing or analytics profiles
- Profile nicknames and usage rules are controlled by the parent
If you believe a child provided personal information to us inappropriately, contact support@gocodingnow.com and we will take reasonable steps to delete it.
10. Website Cookies
Our website may use:
- Essential cookies for basic site function
- Analytics cookies to understand site traffic (separate from the iOS app Amplitude configuration)
You can control cookies in your browser; some site features may not work without them.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, by in-app or email notice. Continued use of the Service after changes means you accept the updated policy.
